MIPPA eRx Incentive Program

What are the incentives for using electronic prescribing?

Forcing practices to change from a long-used, traditional paper format to an electronic format is a difficult task. It is for this reason that the federal government established the e-Prescribing incentive program, so that practices would have financial incentive, if not the intended workflow streamlining incentive, to adopt electronic prescribing.

Year Incentive Penalty
2012 1% 1%
2013 0.5% 1.5%
2014 - 2%

The e-Prescribing incentive is based on “the Secretary’s estimate of the allowed charges for all Physician Fee Schedule covered professional services furnished” over the respective reporting period. This is also a key feature in determining EMR “Meaningful Use.”

How can I qualify?

The e-Prescribing service offered by eDoctor and Newcrop is Surescripts-certified and meets MIPPA standards. As such, the practice simply needs to use the service in any reporting period and report the usage.
